Yeah, the documentation is pretty sparse for DeviceEventEmitter. I just used it for the sake of simplicity but you could directly use the EventEmitter class to handle the events.

From my understanding, ReactNative uses DeviceEventEmitter to emit device related events like app state (background / foreground) and other events that I can't seem to remember.
